KUALA LUMPUR – The country registered 1,196 fresh Covid-19 cases and one death today, down from the record high of 2,334 infections yesterday.
The Health Ministry said this brings the total cumulative infections to 105,096 cases, with 20,233 still active.
It also recorded 997 recoveries today, bringing the total number of cases discharged to 84,411.
Of the 1,196 cases today, five were imported, while the death toll now stands at 452 cases.
A total of 111 cases are under intensive care, while 50 require ventilators, the ministry said.
Health Director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the sole death today was a 71-year-old man, whose body was sent to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
He added that a new cluster – Jalan Sedco – has been detected today, bringing a total of 484 clusters in the country. There are 213 active clusters currently.
He said the Jalan Sedco cluster involves Tawau and Kalabakan in Sabah.
The index case was detected on December 20, and 14 tested positive out of 26 screened.
In a statement today, Selangor saw the highest daily cases with 392, followed by Kuala Lumpur’s 202, and 186 in Sabah.
Johor recorded 194 cases, followed by Negri Sembilan (39), Penang (37), Kelantan (31), Perak (30), Kedah (27), and Melaka (23).
Labuan saw 12 cases, followed by Pahang (9), Putrajaya (6), Terengganu (5) and Sarawak (3).
Perlis is the only state without any new cases today.
Dr Noor Hisham said of Selangor’s 382 new cases, 237 (60.5%) are from existing clusters and close contact screening.
He said 52 cases (4.3%) reported were related to clusters in lockups and prisons – Pagar Siput (15), Tembok Gajah (14), Jalan Harapan Prison (13), Tembok (8), Hala Mutiara (1), and Sandakan Prison (1). – The Vibes, December 27, 2020
