PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called for a peaceful and diplomatic resolution to the ongoing tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan, warning that continued hostilities would only deepen the suffering of civilians and destabilise the region.
In a statement posted late Saturday night, Anwar revealed that he had spoken by phone with both Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Acting Afghan Prime Minister Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund to express Malaysia’s grave concern over the escalating conflict along the two countries’ shared border.
“I emphasised the importance of seeking a peaceful resolution through diplomacy and dialogue, to avoid prolonged conflict that would bring only suffering to the people and undermine peace and stability in the region,” he said.
Anwar stressed that Malaysia views the situation with serious concern and urged all parties involved to prioritise the well-being of their citizens and work towards sustainable peace.
He also reaffirmed Malaysia’s unwavering support for Pakistan, Afghanistan and the broader international community in delivering humanitarian assistance to those affected by the crisis.
“Malaysia remains committed to strengthening Islamic brotherhood and supporting all initiatives aimed at regional peace and stability, including the ongoing peace talks facilitated by the Government of Qatar,” he added.
In the same message, the Prime Minister conveyed Malaysia’s deep sympathy to both nations following recent natural disasters — flooding in Pakistan and an earthquake in eastern Afghanistan — that have compounded the suffering of their populations. - October 19, 2025
