KUALA LUMPUR police have cautioned individuals and groups against organising public gatherings that may disrupt the upcoming 47th ASEAN Summit, which will be held in the capital later this month.
Kuala Lumpur Police Chief, Datuk Fadil Marsus, said any parties intending to hold assemblies in relation to the summit must strictly adhere to security protocols and regulations. He emphasised that any disruption to the summit’s proceedings, official routes, or public order would be treated as a criminal offence.
“I want to remind those planning any form of assembly related to the ASEAN Summit — please do not interfere with the event,” he said during a press conference at the Kuala Lumpur Police Contingent Headquarters.
“Do not engage in any activity that disrupts the proceedings, official convoys, or public peace. Such actions will be considered criminal in nature,” he added.
Datuk Fadil stressed the importance of public cooperation and support from enforcement agencies and government departments to ensure the summit’s smooth execution.
“This is a significant event for Malaysia, as our role in leading ASEAN will be under close international observation,” he said.
“As the lead enforcement agency, alongside other government bodies, we are committed to maintaining public order throughout the duration of the summit.”
He also urged the public to take note of road closures and to avoid affected routes during the event, recommending that alternative roads be used to reduce traffic congestion in the capital.
“We anticipate traffic challenges throughout this major event, so we ask for the public’s cooperation to avoid these areas and plan their journeys accordingly.
“As previously announced, please adjust your activities in line with the summit dates and follow instructions from traffic officers on duty at key locations,” he said.
Commercial vehicle operators have also been reminded to comply with restricted movement hours, while the public is encouraged to use available public transport to help ease congestion. - October 21, 2025
