THE police is offering a 70 percent discount on traffic summonses for the period from November to December.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the offer was open before all summons rates are adjusted from January 1, 2026, involving all enforcement agencies.
“There are two months left before January next year, so the discount from the police is 70 percent, the highest given compared to before.
“The current backlog (summonses) amounts to RM6.6 billion which is still unpaid.
"We have tried our best to run campaigns, reminders and so on but there is still a high backlog of summonses," he said during a press conference in Parliament today.
Commenting on the new method that will be implemented next year, he said the summons rate will be set through the "pay early, get a cheaper summons" approach, compared to those who often delay payment.
Meanwhile, the summons rate for offences under the Road Transport Department (JPJ) will remain at a 50 percent discount until the end of this year.
The approach, which will begin next year, he said, aims to provide justice to all parties, especially those who pay their summonses early.
He said that the current trend of paying summonses only increases when enforcement agencies offer discounts.
“The government believes that it has the effect of consumers taking the opportunity to wait (to pay summonses) when the police make a new offer, then they will pay. But this time we will coordinate everything,” he added.
For the new approach, the summons reduction rate is set at 50 percent discount for a period of 1 to 15 days, 33 percent for 16 to 30 days, while the maximum compound rate will be imposed after that period before court action and blacklisting are taken. – October 22, 2025
