THE Selangor Department of Occupational Safety and Health (JKKP) has ordered an immediate halt to all work-at-height activities at a construction site here after two contract workers fell to their deaths from the 14th floor of an apartment block under construction last week.

In a statement, JKKP Selangor said a Prohibition Notice had been issued to the employer, requiring the suspension of all high-rise work at the site until investigations are completed.

The incident, which occurred around 2pm on 18 October, involved two foreign male workers.

“A team of officers conducted an investigation at the location. Preliminary findings revealed that both victims had been assigned to install aluminium louvre panels along the apartment corridor on the 14th floor.

“They fell from the 14th floor to the 11th floor. The first victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while the second succumbed to his injuries at Sungai Buloh Hospital,” the statement said.

JKKP added that notices were also issued for the employer’s failure to conduct a Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment and Risk Control (HIRARC) for the aluminium louvre panel installation activity, and for not establishing safe work procedures for such operations.

“Further investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the accident and to identify the parties responsible under Section 15(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994,” the statement read. - October 23, 2025
