A TRADER in Kota Tinggi has fallen victim to an online investment scam, losing RM380,000 after being deceived by a syndicate offering unrealistic returns.

Kota Tinggi district police chief Superintendent Yusof Othman revealed on Thursday that the victim was lured by promises of 50 per cent profit within just one week.

The trader was introduced to the fraudulent scheme on 10 October by a man he knew through WhatsApp, who presented the investment as highly lucrative.

"The investment syndicate offered a scheme promising a 50 per cent return on the invested amount within a week," said Yusof.

Enticed by the substantial profits, the trader proceeded to make eight transactions totalling RM380,000 to two different accounts between 10 and 15 October.

When the trader contacted the suspect yesterday to demand the promised profits, the suspect refused and instead urged him to increase his investment further. - October 23, 2025
