A 38-YEAR-OLD man has been remanded for six days following the tragic death of his brother-in-law in Kampung Pida 3, Jerlun, on Friday evening.
The suspect appeared in the Alor Setar Magistrate’s Court on Saturday, where Magistrate Siti Nor Hasliza Md Ali approved the remand until 6 November to facilitate investigations.
Superintendent Mohd Radzi Abdul Rahim, Chief of Kubang Pasu District Police, confirmed that the suspect tested negative for drugs in a urine examination.
“The autopsy on the victim was conducted this morning, and preliminary results regarding the cause of death are expected soon,” he said.
He also urged the public not to circulate images or videos of the incident to preserve the integrity of the investigation and respect the victim’s family.
The victim, a 45-year-old man, was discovered with his head severed near his home in a paddy field, following a reported altercation.
Police received a call from a member of the public at approximately 7.05 pm on Friday. The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, while the motive remains unclear.
Residents of Kampung Pida 3 expressed shock at the brutality of the crime.
Eighteen-year-old Mohamad Adam described the victim as “a very kind man” who often tended to his goats and helped children with their daily routines.
“I still remember seeing him recently when I went to collect plants at his house. He was always helpful and friendly,” he said.
Another resident, Khairul Irfan Mahizan, 20, said: “I never expected something like this to happen here. Our village is usually very peaceful.”- November 1, 2025
