A CHINESE man has been arrested and charged after authorities at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 2 found ketamine worth more than RM344,000 concealed in his luggage.

KLIA Customs Director Zulkifli Muhammad said the 28 October arrest was made through a joint operation between the Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDM) enforcement division and the Malaysian Border Control Agency (AKPS).

“The suspect was stopped after a scan of his baggage raised suspicion,” he said in a statement tonight. “

A further inspection revealed several small transparent plastic packets containing a white powder, believed to be ketamine, wrapped in aluminium, covered with boards and hidden within the fabric lining of two suitcases.”

The drugs, with an estimated gross weight of 6,884 grams, carried a street value exceeding RM344,000.

Zulkifli said the suspect and the seized items were handed over to the KLIA Customs enforcement division for further investigation.

“The suspect’s modus operandi was to conceal the drugs within secret compartments of the luggage to evade security scanners,” he added.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment and not fewer than 12 strokes of the cane if the death sentence is not imposed.

Zulkifli confirmed that the suspect has since been charged in court. - November 11, 2025
