PAKATAN Harapan (PH) Secretary-General Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said today that the last time Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim sought his input on Cabinet appointments was in November 2022, during the initial formation of the government.
“I have no information. As far as I remember, in November 2022, at the very start of forming the government, the Prime Minister asked me to be involved and provide my views.
“But now, after three years, the Prime Minister has sufficient information, and I think he is in the best position to assemble the Cabinet when the time comes.
“So for that, I leave it to the wisdom of the Prime Minister,” Saifuddin said.
He made the remarks at a press conference following the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Transformation for Security 2025 Symposium n Putrajaya today.
When asked whether a Cabinet reshuffle under the Unity Government would take place soon, Saifuddin stressed that the topic had never been discussed.
“Now the Prime Minister has been in office for three years. So, I think he knows best.
“I am with the Prime Minister every day, but this topic has never come up,” he added.
Earlier media reports had suggested Khairy, also known as KJ, might return to the Cabinet. The Prime Minister was reportedly surprised when asked about such speculation regarding the former Rembau MP.
Separately, Saifuddin, who alos serves as Home Minister, addressed his own position, stating that he was not focused on the expiry of his term as a Senator in the Dewan Negara.
Instead, he said he was concentrating fully on his work commitments.
“With my workload, I don’t even think about that. I wouldn’t remember if I wasn’t asked. That is how committed I am to my work, to the point that I don’t even think about it,” he said when asked about his senatorial status.
“My term as a Senator, when it ends or what happens to me, I am not focusing on that at all. It has never been discussed; for that, you need to ask the Prime Minister,” he added.
Media earlier reported that Saifuddin is among the Cabinet ministers whose first term as Senator will end on 2 December.
Two other ministers in similar positions are Minister of Higher Education Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Mohd Na’im Mokhtar. Meanwhile, Minister of International Trade and Industry Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz will conclude his tenure as Senator after serving two terms in the Cabinet. - November 12, 2025
