THE Aerotrain service at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) will undergo thorough inspections, repairs, and operational testing from 15 November, between 9pm and 7am, Malaysia Airports announced.
The initiative forms part of a comprehensive action plan during the Defects Liability Period (DLP), approved by the Ministry of Transport and confirmed by the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD), to safeguard the reliability and resilience of the train system and prevent future service disruptions.
“Our focus is to ensure the Aerotrain remains dependable and safe for use at an international gateway such as KLIA.
“This plan allows us to systematically address the root causes of previous disruptions while reaffirming our commitment to passenger safety and service excellence,” said Malaysia Airports Managing Director, Datuk Mohd Izani Ghani.
The action plan involves three structured phases. The first phase identifies system imperfections and upgrades technical and software components.
The second phase covers simulated operational testing and targeted improvements, including software updates, component realignments, and real-time stress tests to strengthen system integrity.
The third phase will conduct monitored trial operations to verify operational readiness and stability before full service resumes. APAD will perform an official safety inspection upon completion.
The work is expected to conclude on 15 December. Shuttle bus services will operate in the interim to transport passengers between the main terminal and satellite building.
More arrivals and departures will be routed through the main terminal to reduce the need for terminal transfers, Mohd Izani added.
Since its launch on 1 July, the Aerotrain has served over seven million passengers but experienced a series of disruptions, prompting the comprehensive remedial plan. - November 14, 2025
