Sabah polls: PBRS President faces off against Deputy Minister in 5-cornered in Sook

Barisan Nasional’s Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup and other key candidates face stiff competition in Nabawan, Sook, and Tulid as the 17th Sabah State Election approaches

The Tulid state constituency will see an even larger field with 14 candidates vying for the seat - November 15, 2025

PRESIDENT of Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup and Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, will contest the Sook state seat under the Barisan Nasional (BN) banner in a five-cornered fight in the 17th Sabah Election.

Arthur will face Datuk Ellron Angin of Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), Ireneus Pagut of Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR), Joseph Peter Tinggi of Parti Warisan (Warisan), and V Chong Vin of Parti Impian Sabah (PIS). The list of candidates was announced by Election Officer Marshal Anthony @ Idham.

Meanwhile, the Nabawan state seat will witness a nine-cornered contest. GRS candidate Datuk Abdul Ghani Mohd Yassin will face BN’s Laui Ompongoh, Alfiqn A Koroh (Warisan), Sayau Tangkap (Perikatan Nasional), Akuang Suan (STAR), Jinulin Kilan (UPKO), Jekerison Kilan (Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat - KDM), Rejoh Ondoh (PIS) and Farney Akon (Parti Kebangsaan Sabah - PKS).

The Tulid state constituency will see an even larger field with 14 candidates, including Pakatan Harapan’s Rufinah Pengeran, Dr Aisat Ellik Igau Inggau (KDM), Mohd Khairil Abdullah (UPKO), Datuk Everitus Gungkit (STAR), Lucia Kihing (Warisan), Jufina Dimis (Parti Rumpun Sabah), Vinsin Rusikan (PKS), and Ancis @ Rayner Francis Udog (PIS). Six independent candidates are also in the running: Jordan Jude Eleron, Datuk Sumey Yasambun, Engah Sintan, Lautis Anggang, Edwin Lamin, and Clarence Carter Mataat.

The Election Commission has scheduled polling for 29 November, with early voting set for 25 November. - November 15, 2025
