FORMER Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar has confirmed that he will be heading to Sabah to assist in the campaign for candidates contesting in the 17th Sabah State Election, despite uncertainty surrounding his formal re-entry into UMNO.

Khairy, popularly known as KJ, said his visit is in response to invitations from former colleagues who had served alongside him in UMNO Youth and Barisan Nasional.

"Yes, I will be going. I have received invitations and requests from old friends who were with me previously," he told reporters after attending the 2025 Malaysia Family Run at Padang Merbok on Saturday.

The event was also attended by former Prime Minister and Malaysia Family Foundation Chairman, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

When asked about his return to UMNO, Khairy offered a brief reply.

"Not yet, I haven’t received anything," he said.

Earlier reports by Sinar Harian indicated that Khairy had expressed his intention to rejoin UMNO during an informal meeting with party President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi at the wedding reception of the UMNO Perlis Chairman’s child, Datuk Rozabil Abdul Rahman.

A source close to KJ in UMNO Selangor confirmed to Sinar Harian that the former Minister had expressed his willingness to discuss the best approach to return to the party. - November 15, 2025
