THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) raided the residence of Sabah businessman Albert Tei today, according to his lawyer, Zaid Malek.
Zaid claimed in a statement that he was not allowed to meet with Tei by MACC officers and police who were at the businessman's residence.
He also shared a video showing Tei being escorted by armed individuals wearing balaclavas and MACC vests.
In the footage, a defiant Tei is seen raising his cuffed hands and shouting that he would continue to "fight on".
Zaid said his client's right to a lawyer was denied and this was a violation of Tei's constitutional right to a fair legal process.
Tei was one of three individuals called by the MACC to assist in investigations into a video clip showing his conversation with a woman, Sofia Rini Buyong.
Rini is still having her statement recorded by the MACC.
She arrived at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya yesterday afternoon.
Another individual scheduled to have his statement recorded today is Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, former senior political secretary to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
It is understood that Shamsul was initially scheduled to give his statement earlier, but he was in Sabah and was unable to return in time.
In the latest development, Tei was brought back to his home in Puchong, Selangor, believed to be part of ongoing investigations into his case.
His lawyer, Zaid Malek, confirmed the development.
Tei was seen being escorted into his residence in handcuffs. Zaid said he received word of his client’s return home while he was en route to meet him.
“I have not received further information as I am unsure whether Tei has been released or if his home is being searched again,” he told the media.
As of now, the media has not been able to obtain confirmation or details regarding the circumstances of Tei's detention from MACC, including from its Chief Commissioner, Tan Sri Azam Baki. - November 28, 2025
