AN individual who triggered a hoax bomb threat involving a local departure flight at Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 1 (KLIA T1) yesterday was detained and handed over to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).

Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) in a statement said the incident was first reported at 5.32 pm shortly before the scheduled flight departure.

The Aviation Security team activated the required response protocols, secured the area and coordinated with the relevant authorities.

“Aviation Security, together with PDRM and the bomb disposal unit, completed a detailed assessment of the scene.

“Authorities declared stand down at 8.58 pm, confirming that the situation was safe and the incident was a hoax,” the statement said.

MAHB said all passengers remained safe throughout the process, and the flight later departed with the remaining passengers at 7.19pm

“Airport operations continued without disruption,” the statement said, while reminding all travellers that making false threats is a serious offence under Malaysian law. - December 3, 2025
