ORKIM Berhad has officially debuted on the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad, marking a milestone for the Bumiputera enterprise ecosystem and highlighting the nation’s ongoing efforts to nurture mid-market companies into competitive national champions.
Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan described the listing as “more than a corporate milestone — it marks a significant step forward for Malaysia’s Bumiputera enterprise ecosystem and demonstrates how strategic collaboration among our Government-Linked Investment Companies, or GLICs, nurtures and builds globally competitive national champions.”
The minister underscored the central role of the government’s GEAR-Up Agenda, which aims to harmonise the efforts of GLICs across different stages of corporate development.
“When the Government first introduced the GEAR-Up Agenda, it was with a clear vision — to create synergy and coordination among our GLICs, each playing a complementary role at different stages of a company’s development.
Institutions like Ekuinas and PNB will work hand in hand to scale high potential companies and secure their long-term growth, ensuring that economic value remains within the nation,” Amir, who is also the acting Economy Minister, said.
Orkim’s path to listing exemplifies this model, with Ekuinas initially strengthening the company’s governance, operational efficiency, and commercial discipline before passing stewardship to Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB) to provide scale, stability, and strategic oversight.
“This is the Bumiputera ‘Relay Race’ in action — where one capable institution passes the baton to another, ensuring that the momentum continues and that Malaysian enterprises remain competitive for generations to come,” the minister added.
Amir urged other mid-market companies to look to Orkim’s success as an inspiration.
“It shows what is possible when ambition meets discipline and institutional support. Through frameworks like GEAR-Up, mid-sized companies can evolve into listed entities, attract capital, and compete regionally,” he said, noting that Orkim’s listing marks the 58th initial public offering this year, reflecting robust investor confidence.
Highlighting Orkim’s strategic importance, the minister emphasised the company’s role in maritime logistics and energy transportation.
“Orkim’s presence in maritime logistics and energy transportation is key in supporting national energy security, ensuring that clean petroleum products and LPG continue to flow safely and reliably across the region. Under PNB’s stewardship,
“I am confident that Orkim will continue to strengthen its position and contribute meaningfully to Malaysia’s maritime and energy ecosystem.”
Amir congratulated Orkim’s leadership and staff, both onshore and at sea.
“Today, as you transition into the public-company domain, you carry not only your own ambitions, — but the nation’s hopes, and the trust of institutional stewards who believe in your potential. May Orkim sail ahead with steady hand, strong purpose, and unwavering commitment to excellence.”
