THE Prime Minister’s Department on Tuesday received a hydrogen fuel-cell electric vehicle (FCEV), the Toyota Mirai, from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), marking what officials describe as a significant step in Malaysia’s transition towards low-carbon mobility and a more sustainable future economy.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the initiative demonstrated the confidence of domestic and international industry partners in Malaysia’s policies and long-term blueprint for developing a national hydrogen ecosystem.
In a statement shared on Facebook following the handover ceremony, Anwar said the adoption of the hydrogen-powered vehicle would “spur cross-border collaboration and drive automotive innovation across Southeast Asia.”
The Prime Minister added: “The Madani Government will continue to lead the regional shift towards green and smart mobility to ensure that Malaysia is not only prepared for future demands, but also becomes a leader in shaping a cleaner, safer and more sustainable mobility landscape for generations to come.” - December 9, 2025
