MALAYSIA’S Embassy in Phnom Penh has urged its citizens in Cambodia to avoid several areas along the Thai–Cambodian border due to escalating military clashes between the two neighbouring states.
In a statement, Wisma Putra said Malaysians should refrain from non-essential travel to the provinces of Preah Vihear, Oddar Meanchey, Banteay Meanchey, Battambang and Pursat until further notice.
“Given the situation between Cambodia and Thailand, Malaysian nationals in Cambodia are advised to avoid non-essential travel to Preah Vihear, Oddar Meanchey, Banteay Meanchey, Battambang and Pursat provinces until further notice,” it said.
“Malaysian nationals in Cambodia are also advised to stay updated through credible news sources and comply with all instructions and advice issued by the local authorities and government agencies,” the ministry added.

The Thai–Cambodian border conflict, which stretches back over a century, reignited in July with five days of intense fighting. Both countries later agreed to a ceasefire in Kuala Lumpur on 24 July, followed by the signing of the Kuala Lumpur Peace Agreement on 26 October during the 47th ASEAN Summit, witnessed by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim as ASEAN Chair and U.S. President Donald Trump.
However, hostilities resumed on Monday, resulting in several fatalities and displacing thousands of residents, prompting Malaysia to issue the latest travel advisory. - December 11, 2025
