A MAN was found dead after a fire engulfed his condominium unit on the 26th floor of Tiffani Kiara, Mont Kiara, Kuala Lumpur, yesterday.
The Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department’s Operations Centre (PGO) reported that emergency services were alerted via the NG999 system before firefighters from the Sri Hartamas, Menjalara, Sentul, and Taman Tun Dr Ismail stations were dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, crews discovered the unit ablaze and immediately launched firefighting and rescue operations.
However, efforts were hindered by a malfunctioning building fire prevention system.
“Crews had to deploy two water tenders and engine pumps to channel water to the affected unit,” the PGO said.
Rescue teams discovered a male victim on the balcony with burns covering 100 per cent of his body. He was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel from the Ministry of Health.
The fire consumed approximately 1,500 square feet of the unit, resulting in total destruction. Firefighters successfully extinguished the blaze at 2.03 a.m.
“The cause of the incident is still under investigation by the Forensic Unit,” the statement added.
Earlier reports indicated that the fire broke out at around 8.46 p.m., with initial concerns that a resident might be trapped inside. The fatality underscores ongoing challenges in high-rise fire safety when suppression systems fail to operate effectively. - December 11, 2025
