Victim transfers funds to ‘audit account’ after being misled by impersonators, police investigate - December 13, 2025

A FOOD trader in Jempol has lost RM69,900 after falling victim to a scam in which perpetrators impersonated officers from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (SKMM), police confirmed.

The victim, a 49-year-old man, received a phone call at 9.30am last Thursday from an individual claiming to be an MCMC officer.

The caller warned that the man’s phone number had allegedly been misused by scammers and that his bank account was implicated in fraud and money laundering activities.

"Suspect then instructed the victim to make payments into a bank account provided for audit purposes. The frightened victim complied, conducting 16 transactions into the account given," said Jempol District Police Chief Superintendent Norhisham Mustapar.

The victim only realised he had been deceived when attempts to contact the number used by the caller failed. He subsequently filed a police report at 5.50pm the same day.

"Police are currently investigating the case under Section 420 of the Penal Code," Norhisham added, highlighting ongoing efforts to trace the scammers and prevent further incidents.

Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant against similar impersonation schemes and to verify any suspicious communications purportedly from official agencies before transferring money. - December 13, 2025
