POLICE have detained a suspect believed to be involved in the shooting of a man who was searching for petai beans in a forested area in Kampung Maasop, Senaling, in the Kuala Pilah district of Negeri Sembilan, with the arrest made hundreds of kilometres away in Sabah.

The incident occurred last Friday, when a local man was seriously injured after being hit by shotgun pellets while foraging alone in a forest near the village.

Kuala Pilah district police chief Superintendent Muhamad Mustafah Hussin said investigations led to the arrest of the suspect at Kota Kinabalu International Airport on Sunday.

The suspect, a man in his 40s, was detained with the assistance of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Sabah police contingent headquarters, he said.

“A remand order for the suspect began yesterday.

“Initial investigations found that the suspect is believed to have been directly involved in the incident. Police also seized several items believed to be linked to the case,” he said.

Muhamad Mustafah added that the man has one prior criminal record. The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder and Section 3 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971.

The shooting was reported on December 12, when a 47-year-old man was found injured after being shot by an unknown individual while searching for petai in the forested area of Kampung Maasop.

Police said the victim was alone at the time and sustained pellet wounds to his right rib area and back. - December 17, 2025
