THE year-end period is notoriously challenging for Malaysian parents as they prepare for the new school term, particularly with the 2026 session scheduled to begin earlier in mid-January. Costs for uniforms, shoes, school bags, and stationery can place a heavy burden on families, especially those with low to middle incomes.
Stepping in to provide relief, the Government’s Rahmah Madani Sales (PJRM) programme has long been recognised as one of the most practical initiatives close to the hearts of Malaysians.
Since its inception, PJRM has enabled consumers to purchase essential daily items such as chicken, eggs, cooking oil, and other fresh and dry goods at 10 to 30 per cent below local market prices.
Building on this, the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) has introduced a special “Back to School” segment under PJRM to assist parents in preparing for the 2026 academic year.
Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali highlighted that the programme goes beyond discounted sales, serving as a one-stop centre for all back-to-school needs.
“Through the Payung RAHMAH allocation, KPDN will continue to enhance the PJRM implementation by refining operational methods and broadening the target groups, particularly during critical periods such as children’s school enrolment,” he said.
The “Back to School” PJRM will run nationwide from 20 December 2025 to 11 January 2026, aligning with school holidays and preparations for the new academic session. During the same period, the PJRM Christmas sale will also operate to ensure households have access to festive necessities.
Over 269 sales events are planned across the country, in collaboration with major retail chains including Canggih, Mydin, Lotus’s Malaysia, Pustaka Rakyat, Pasaraya Sakan, and selected convenience stores. Items available include school uniforms—shirts, trousers, songkok, socks, skirts, tudung, baju kurung, undergarments, and singlets—as well as co-curricular uniforms, sportswear, school bags, stationery, books, folders, lunch boxes, and water bottles.
The PJRM initiative imposes no purchase limits, allowing parents to fully equip their children in a single visit. Detailed schedules and locations can be accessed via KPDN’s official website and social media channels, with updates regularly provided to facilitate planning.
“The programme demonstrates the government’s ongoing commitment to addressing the cost of living while supporting education and youth welfare,” the minister added. “With careful planning and participation in PJRM Back to School, parents can prepare their children efficiently, economically, and confidently for the new school year.”
