POLICE have secured a week-long remand order for a 62-year-old man following the discovery of physical injuries on his five-year-old granddaughter which medical experts suggest are consistent with rape.

A judicial magistrate in Dungun has authorised the detention of a local grandfather for seven days to facilitate a sensitive investigation into the alleged rape of his young descendant.

The suspect was apprehended by authorities at his residence in Chukai, Kemaman, on Thursday evening after medical practitioners raised the alarm regarding the child's condition.

The case came to light after the victim’s mother noticed physical abnormalities and reported that the child was experiencing significant discomfort. Superintenden Mohd Razi Rosli, the Kemaman District Police Chief, confirmed that the suspect was taken into custody at approximately 7.45pm yesterday to assist with ongoing enquiries.

The victim’s mother detected redness on her daughter’s private parts before referring her to the hospital. Medical specialist examinations confirmed a tear to the victim’s private parts, and the child also recounted the rape incident, the police chief stated when contacted today.

Under the current legal proceedings, the man will remain in custody until Saturday. Investigating officers are treating the matter with the utmost gravity, focusing on the specific circumstances of the alleged assault which reportedly took place last Wednesday.

The case is being investigated under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code, which carries heavy penalties for the offence of rape. - December 28, 2025
