UNITY among Malaysia’s multiracial society is a critical pillar in shaping a more prosperous, peaceful and resilient future for both the state and the nation as the country approaches the New Year 2026, Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said.
He said the diversity that defines Malaysia and Terengganu should not be viewed as a weakness, but as a source of strength if nurtured through mutual respect, understanding and harmonious coexistence.
According to him, respect for one another and a spirit of goodwill are the core values that sustain lasting unity, while also ensuring shared security and well-being.
“We step into the New Year 2026 with gratitude and great hope. Each year that passes teaches us many lessons — about patience, about effort, and about the importance of standing shoulder to shoulder,” he said.
“This new year brings hope for a better life, a more secure future, and a Malaysia that continues to progress with united hearts,” he added in his New Year 2026 message shared on his social media platform on Wednesday.
Dr Ahmad Samsuri said that in an increasingly challenging global environment, the people must be prepared to face various trials by anchoring themselves in knowledge, noble values and a strong sense of togetherness. He stressed that development should not only be measured in material terms, but must also be balanced socially and morally.
“Malaysia and Terengganu are built on diversity. We differ in race, culture and background, yet that is where our strength lies,” he said.
“When we respect one another, seek to understand each other and live in a spirit of goodwill, unity will continue to be preserved and peace can be enjoyed together,” he added.
He said the state government remains committed to implementing development policies that are fair and inclusive, so that the benefits can be felt by all segments of society regardless of race, status or background.
He added that every plan and development initiative would continue to be carried out in an equitable and inclusive manner to ensure that all citizens share in the progress achieved.
“Balanced development is the foundation of lasting unity, and the state government will continue to shoulder this responsibility to the best of its ability,” he said.
At the same time, Dr Ahmad Samsuri expressed hope that the new year would serve as a platform for Malaysians to strengthen mutual understanding, enhance cooperation and move forward confidently as one collective family.
“May this year be a space for us to understand each other better, to work together more closely, and to move forward with confidence as one big family,” he said.
“Happy New Year 2026. May every step we take be made easier, every effort be blessed, and every success be enjoyed together for a better Terengganu and Malaysia,” he added. - December 31, 2025
