THE coordinated inspection process introduced at the departure gates of Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 on Thursday has been well received by travellers and airline crew, contributing to smoother and more efficient passenger movement.
Royal Malaysian Customs Department director-general Datuk Anis Rizana Mohd Zainudin said her observations at the terminal early this morning showed clear improvements in passenger flow following the implementation of the new initiative.
“It has indeed made things easier for passengers. Some overnight flight crew even gave a thumbs up to officers at the airport.
“Alhamdulillah, our target of achieving seamless traffic movement at KLIA Terminal 1 has been met,” she said.
Anis Rizana added that the relocation of Customs scanning machines that are no longer in use at the departure gates was carried out smoothly and did not disrupt passenger movement at the terminal.
Customs inspections for travellers departing Malaysia were officially consolidated at the departure gates of KLIA Terminal 1 from today, under a new operational arrangement aimed at reducing congestion and improving efficiency.
Earlier, the Transport Ministry said the initiative would allow passengers to experience a smoother flow before boarding their flights, while cutting waiting times and easing congestion in the departure zone.
On Wednesday, Customs said enhancements to scanning and contraband detection processes for international passengers at KLIA Terminal 1 form part of broader efforts to optimise traffic flow at the airport.
Under the agreed operational coordination, security screening at the departure gates of KLIA Terminal 1 is now conducted by the Aviation Security division of Malaysia Airports, in line with established civil aviation security functions and standards.
Customs also said the new approach strengthens operational cooperation between the department, the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency, and Aviation Security personnel, through risk-based scanning supported by intelligence inputs and current trend analysis. - January 1, 2026
