THE Johor Department of Environment is still working to identify the source of persistent odour pollution reported in several residential neighbourhoods across the city.
Johor Department of Environment director Dr Mohd Famey Yusoff said the department has conducted repeated investigations following complaints from residents, with updates on enforcement actions shared through the department’s official Facebook page.
He said that for the latest complaints, monitoring patrols were carried out over several days, but investigators have so far been unable to pinpoint the source of the pollution.
“The Department of Environment will continue monitoring and surveillance efforts to identify the source. We are committed to resolving this issue,” he said in a statement today.
Dr Mohd Famey also called on the public to assist authorities by remaining vigilant in their respective neighbourhoods as part of efforts to trace the cause of the incident.
He said any information obtained could be channelled to the department via its official e-complaint portal.
Members of the public with additional information or who observe suspicious activities that may aid the investigation have also been urged to report them through the department’s toll-free hotline at 1-800-88-2727.
Previously, in a Facebook posting on Dec 26, the department said operations to trace the source of the pungent odour were actively focused on several areas, including Jalan Kempas Lama, Taman Impian Emas, Kempas Utama, Kempas Indah, Bandar Setia Tropika, Bandar Dato’ Onn and Jalan Perjiranan. - January 3, 2025
