AN officer and several policemen from the Bachok District Police Headquarters (IPD) are being investigated after allegedly extorting RM6,000 from the family of a drug suspect on December 30.
Kelantan Police Chief, Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat, said an internal investigation was launched immediately that day on all the individuals involved.
“This is because the officers and personnel involved allegedly asked for money and threatened the suspect’s mother to hand over the money,” he said when contacted by Berita Harian today.
Mohd Yusoff said the investigation was still ongoing and further action against the officers and personnel would be determined.
He stressed that police would not compromise on any wrongdoing, and take strict action if the allegations were proven true.
Meanwhile, according to sources, the woman involved claimed that her son was detained by several police officers in Bachok on suspicion of possessing drugs on the day of the incident.
The mother claimed that they demanded RM6,000 from her and threatened that the woman's son would be locked up and charged in court the next day if the money was not paid before midnight.
The woman, who is from Terengganu, then asked for help from a friend before coming forward to file a police report. – January 5, 2026
