THE Ministry of Finance (MoF) has withdrawn the Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) and Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA), which were earlier given to a man who claimed to own six rental houses.
The MoF informed Buletin TV3 that the man is currently being investigated under the Income Tax Act 1967 for suspected failure to declare rental income.
"Further investigation was conducted, and it was found that the ownership of the properties involved is true.
"Based on the transfer information recorded in the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia's (LHDNM) e-Duti Stamp system, the properties in question are registered in the names of the recipient and his spouse.
"Based on this investigation and findings, his STR and SARA approvals have been withdrawn," said MoF.
Previously, a post by a man went viral on social media, revealing that he received STR and SARA assistance totalling RM1,900 per year, in addition to admitting to owning six rental properties purchased since 2007.
The post sparked widespread reaction among the community, who called for property ownership to be taken into account as an eligibility criterion for government assistance. MoF reminded all applicants to provide accurate and truthful information in their government assistance applications.
If false or inaccurate information is found, legal action may be taken, in addition to the government having the right to withdraw any assistance approved. – January 17, 2026
