POLICE personnel in Sabah are preparing to carry out early voting duties tomorrow as the Kinabatangan parliamentary and Lamag state assembly by-elections approach.
A total of 196 officers are slated to participate, with polling set to take place at the Kinabatangan District Police Headquarters from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through a single designated voting channel.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department has forecasted generally clear weather in the morning and afternoon, which is expected to facilitate a smooth voting process.
In Kinabatangan, the parliamentary by-election is shaping up as a three-cornered contest. Barisan Nasional’s candidate, Mohd Kurniawan Naim Moktar, will face Datuk Saddi Abdul Rahman representing Warisan, and independent contender Goldam Hamid.
Meanwhile, in Lamag, the state assembly seat will see a straight fight between Mohd Ismail Ayob of Barisan Nasional and Warisan’s Mazliwati Abdul Malek.
These by-elections were called following the passing of the incumbent MP and state assembly member, Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, aged 66, on 5 December last year. The Election Commission has scheduled polling for this Saturday.
With early voting underway tomorrow, the 196 police personnel will perform their civic duties ahead of the general polling day, ensuring that law enforcement representation is maintained while the electoral process unfolds. - January 19, 2026
