SELANGOR Islamic authorities have launched an investigation into the operator of a mosque’s Facebook page in Rawang, following allegations that the account disseminated content of a partisan nature.
Datuk Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad, director of JAIS, confirmed that the probe focuses on posts made by the Facebook account holder known as Hasnul Zulkarnain, as well as content published on the Blogspot site gigitankerengga.blogspot.com.
“Accordingly, the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) and JAIS will take firm action in response to this matter,” he said in a statement.
The case will be investigated under Section 12(a) of the Selangor Syariah Criminal Enactment 1995, which covers actions that insult lawful authority, disobey, or contravene the orders of the Sultan of Selangor in his capacity as Head of Islam in the state.
“If found guilty, the offender may face a fine of up to RM3,000, imprisonment of up to two years, or both,” he added.
In parallel, MAIS will consider action under the Selangor Mosque and Surau Regulations 2017, which could include dismissal from positions held within the mosque committee.
Shahzihan emphasised that the stance of MAIS and JAIS reflects the Sultan’s clear directive that mosques and suraus in Selangor must remain impartial and avoid involvement in, or the promotion of, political agendas that could sow discord among Muslims.
“The Sultan has instructed MAIS and JAIS to act firmly in this matter to ensure that mosques and suraus in the state continue to serve as neutral institutions,” he said.
He added that mosques and suraus should be safe, peaceful spaces for worship and activity, and should function as centres and pillars of strength for the Muslim community.
“I urge Muslims to continue building unity by making mosques and suraus focal points for consensus and cohesion at the community level,” he said.
Shahzihan noted that while differences of opinion are natural, they should contribute positively to knowledge, spiritual practice, and personal purification, rather than undermine religious fundamentals or cultivate envy, hatred, or extremism.
“Differences should not negate the core principles of our faith, nor should they disregard knowledge, etiquette, or the proper attitude in engaging with diverse perspectives,” he said. - January 21, 2026
