BARISAN Nasional candidate Mohd Kurniawan Naim Moktar on Thursday unveiled a manifesto for the Kinabatangan parliamentary by-election, outlining 10 pledges aimed at improving public welfare and accelerating development in the constituency, with a strong emphasis on accountability and inclusive governance.
In a manifesto shared on his official Facebook page, Mohd Kurniawan said he would establish a Kinabatangan Strategic Development Council to plan and monitor long-term development for the constituency.
He added that opposition representatives would also be appointed to the council to ensure checks and balances in decision-making.
The UMNO Kinabatangan Youth chief also pledged to present financial reports every six months, introduce a seafood and river produce collection centre to boost fishermen’s income, and provide public transport services for residents in the largely rural constituency.
Other commitments outlined in the manifesto include the establishment of the Kinabatangan Foundation to support education, welfare and emergency assistance, the development of a tourism and cultural hub, and the transformation of polling district centres into youth-friendly spaces known as Youth Stay Hubs.
He also proposed introducing an education profit programme linked to Technical and Vocational Education and Training, offering free e-tuition services, and providing regular free health screenings for residents.
Speaking on the launch of his manifesto, Mohd Kurniawan said his campaign was rooted in practical delivery rather than political slogans.
“Today I am not here bringing promises that sound good on the lips. I am here bringing a work plan that can be audited, monitored and questioned by the people. I may be young, I may be new, but I believe sincerity structured with clear planning will defeat empty promises repeated over and over,” he said.
He added that his vision for Kinabatangan was based on tangible progress and public accountability.
“I want Kinabatangan to move forward with work, not rhetoric. Take me to work, correct me if I stray and judge me by results,” he said.
