THE contempt of court case involving former Sabah chief minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal has been adjourned and reset to 11 February, following an application by the prosecution that was agreed to by all parties.
Deputy public prosecutor Mohamad Mustaffa P Kunyalan confirmed the new hearing date when contacted, saying the matter had originally been fixed for today.
“The court has rescheduled it to 11 February following an application by the prosecution, with the consent of all parties,” he said.
The case stems from statements allegedly made by Shafie in relation to the inquest into the death of Zara Qairina Mahathir, which were said to have interfered with the ongoing proceedings.
On 22 September 2025, the Coroner’s Court issued a show-cause notice to the president of Parti Warisan in connection with the remarks.
Subsequently, on 23 October last year, Coroner Amir Shah Amir Hassan granted the Attorney General permission to initiate contempt of court proceedings against Shafie and activist Che Muna Din, also known as Mona Din.
Both were ordered to respond to the allegations under Order 52, Rule 3(2) of the Rules of Court 2012.
On 18 December 2025, Mona Din pleaded guilty to contempt of court and was fined RM300, with a default sentence of 14 days’ imprisonment if the fine was not paid. - February 3, 2026
