THE Shah Alam High Court, on Wednesday, recorded a consent order between the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission and Murray Hunter, bringing to a close a defamation suit arising from statements published on Hunter’s online platforms.
The order was recorded during an online proceeding before High Court judge Noor Hayati Mat, following a lawsuit filed by MCMC against Hunter over what the commission described as defamatory statements directed at MCMC and related parties.
According to MCMC, the consent order forms part of a settlement agreement dated 12 January 2026, which was also linked to criminal proceedings against Hunter in Thailand stemming from the same publications.
The consent order was entered after Hunter issued a public apology and removed the disputed statements from his online platforms. He also reaffirmed an undertaking, as recorded in the order, not to republish the statements or any similar content concerning MCMC and related parties in the future.
MCMC said it takes false and defamatory statements seriously and will continue to take appropriate action to protect its integrity and to ensure accountability over what it described as reckless and irresponsible publications.
During the online proceedings, MCMC was represented by Datuk Selva Mookiah and Nurshafiqa Balqish binti Jaffri, while Hunter represented himself. - February 5, 2026
