ONE person was killed and seven others, including a young girl, sustained injuries in a collision between an express bus and two lorries on the southbound North-South Expressway at kilometre 433 on Thursday morning.
Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar, Assistant Director of Operations for the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), said the emergency call was received at 5.12 am.
“Sixteen personnel with fire engines from the Bukit Sentosa Fire and Rescue Station, supported by the Rawang station, rushed to the scene, which is eight kilometres away,” he said.
Upon arrival nine minutes later, the rescue teams found that the crash involved a bonded 10-tonne lorry, a trailer, and an express bus.
“The driver of the bonded lorry was pronounced dead by medical personnel from the Ministry of Health and handed over to police for further action,” Ahmad Mukhlis confirmed.
A male lorry assistant suffered fractured ribs and was transported by Sungai Buloh ambulance services for treatment.
The express bus was carrying 14 men, five women, seven children, and two drivers at the time of the collision.
“The bus driver, a 39-year-old man, was trapped and sustained serious head and leg injuries before being freed by rescue personnel at 6.05 am,” he added.
Three male passengers suffered minor injuries, and a young girl sustained a nosebleed but remained conscious; all were handed over to the Ministry of Health ambulance services.
Ahmad Mukhlis noted that a man travelling on the trailer suffered a neck injury but refused hospital treatment when offered by the ambulance team.
