POLICE have issued a firm warning to organisers of the Anti-Illegal Shrine Rally scheduled to take place near the Sogo shopping complex on Saturday, cautioning against any provocation or statements touching on issues related to religion, race and the monarchy.
Dang Wangi district police chief Assistant Commissioner Sazalee Adam said a meeting was held with representatives of the organising group at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters on Thursday to outline conditions and boundaries for the assembly.
“Six representatives from the organisers attended the meeting at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters at about 2.30pm today,” Sazalee said when contacted.
“We issued reminders and clear guidelines, particularly stressing that issues related to religion, race and the monarchy must not be raised,” he said.
Sazalee said police would not hesitate to take action in accordance with the law if organisers or participants failed to comply with the conditions set out.
“If any breach of the guidelines is detected, enforcement action will be taken based on the relevant legal provisions,” he said.
He added that police personnel from various units would be deployed and placed on standby to ensure public safety and maintain order in and around the rally location.
Earlier, Anti-Illegal Shrine Movement coordinator Zamri Vinoth confirmed that police had been formally notified of the planned gathering, as required under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.
He said the rally, expected to draw participation from 141 non-governmental organisations, is scheduled to begin at 8pm and is aimed at urging authorities to enforce laws against encroachment and the construction of places of worship without approval.
The police reminder comes amid heightened sensitivity surrounding 3R issues, which authorities have repeatedly warned could threaten public harmony if exploited during public assemblies. - February 6, 2026
