PARTI Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia has stressed that any issue relating to the dismissal of its members, including Deputy President Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, is subject strictly to the procedures set out in the party’s constitution.
Bersatu Secretary-General Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said the party constitution makes no distinction between rank or individual, and applies equally to all members.
He explained that any member found to have breached the party constitution or regulations, and against whom a written complaint has been lodged, will have the matter referred to the Disciplinary Board for further action.
“The Disciplinary Board has the mandate to make five types of decisions, namely to issue a warning, acquit, suspend or expel, subject to the evidence presented and the scrutiny undertaken.
“Therefore, I do not wish to discuss any party’s petition because it is the right of every member to bring such matters to the Disciplinary Board,” he said when met by Sinar Harian on Friday.
Mohamed Azmin was speaking after the conclusion of the Dialogue with the President programme held at Bersatu’s headquarters in Petaling Jaya, where he was seen accompanying party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
He further clarified that Article 22.5 of the Bersatu Constitution provides that if there is a written complaint from the Supreme Leadership Council, State Leadership Body, division, branch or any member against the misconduct of another member, the Disciplinary Board is required to hear the complaint.
He was responding to allegations of a petition calling for Hamzah’s dismissal that has been circulating on WhatsApp, raised following the same programme on Friday.
Commenting on the Dialogue with the President programme, Mohamed Azmin said it served as an open platform to brief the party’s information machinery at various levels, including Members of Parliament and division chiefs.
“The objective is for all parties to hear directly from the President about the party’s direction, the foundations of the party constitution and where the party is heading, particularly in facing the upcoming General Election.
“Of course, along the political journey there are challenges and trials. The President is responsible for ensuring that members at the grassroots adhere to the constitution and work to ensure the party’s victory as a party accepted by the people,” he said.
On the position of the Perikatan Nasional chairman, Mohamed Azmin said discussions were still ongoing.
“All parties, including Bersatu, PAS, the Malaysian People’s Movement Party (Gerakan) and the Malaysian Indian People’s Party have agreed that Perikatan Nasional must be preserved.
“If there are any problems, they will be brought to the negotiating table. It is this negotiating table that will unite all matters, and I believe that with the wisdom of party leaders, these issues can be resolved harmoniously,” he added.
Previously, Bersatu reiterated that its stance on the appointment of the Perikatan Nasional chairman remains unchanged, maintaining that the post should only be held by a president of one of the coalition’s component parties.
Its Information Chief Datuk Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz said the position was decided at a Bersatu Supreme Leadership Council meeting on 12 January and remains in force. - February7, 2026
