A TRADER was fined RM5,500 at the Kajang Magistrate’s Court today after pleading guilty to assaulting and threatening the life of an elderly man in a road incident on Jalan Cheras-Hulu Langat last Sunday.
Saiful Adli Yusof, 52, entered his plea before Magistrate Fatin Dayana Jalil.
He faced two charges: causing injury to 70-year-old Liew Khoon Foo by punching and kicking him on the face and body, and making a criminal threat intending to cause death.
The offences occurred at 4.05pm on 8 February. Saiful Adli, a father of four, was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of one year in prison or a fine of up to RM2,000, and Section 506, which carries up to two years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both.
According to the prosecution, the victim was driving a Proton Wira at 3.45pm when he was involved in a minor collision with a Toyota Vellfire MPV.
Fearing further trouble, he continued to Taman Suntex, but the Vellfire followed and blocked his vehicle at the Taman Suntex traffic lights.
The accused allegedly kicked the victim’s car, prompting him to exit in fear. Saiful Adli then punched and kicked the man, leaving him with facial injuries, bruised eyes, a swollen chin, and a bleeding tongue.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Aida Afiqah Shaari urged the court to impose a stern sentence as a deterrent to the public.
The defence, led by Muhammad Syakir Haznal, requested a minimal fine, citing the accused’s role as sole breadwinner for his wife, four children aged six days to 16 years, and a chronically ill mother-in-law.
“During the incident, my client was with his wife and their three-day-old child. They were shocked and distressed by what happened,” the lawyer said.
“He has expressed remorse and promised not to repeat his actions.”
The court imposed a RM5,500 fine for both charges, with an alternative sentence of eight months’ imprisonment if the fine is not paid.
Police reports indicated that the assault followed a minor traffic accident near the Batu 9 Cheras traffic lights. Kajang District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Nazron Abdul Yusof, stated that the victim, a retired man, lodged a report at 4.49pm after being attacked and threatened at the scene.
A video, lasting one minute and 20 seconds, showing the suspect verbally abusing and kicking the victim while seated in his car, circulated widely on social media the following day. - February 10, 2026
