FOUR men have been arrested following the partial demolition of a temple here, allegedly carried out without consultation or prior notification to the local authorities, prompting a police investigation under several provisions of the Penal Code.
Selangor Police Chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said officers received a report from a local man regarding the incident on Wednesday.
“Investigations found that part of the temple had been demolished without any discussion and without notification to the local authorities or the complainant prior to carrying out the clearing activities,” he said in a statement.
He confirmed that an investigation paper has been opened under Sections 427, 295, 504 and 447 of the Penal Code, covering offences including mischief, injuring or defiling a place of worship, intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of the peace, and criminal trespass.
“A total of four local men, aged between 26 and 39, have been arrested and we have seized an excavator,” he said.
Shazeli urged the public to refrain from speculation and to remain rational, warning against statements that could inflame racial or religious tensions or disrupt public order.
“We give our assurance that investigations will be conducted professionally, transparently and fairly in accordance with the rule of law.
