A FORMER political secretary to the ex-Chief Minister of Melaka and his wife have been remanded for five days, beginning Thursday, while the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) investigates claims that the couple solicited and accepted bribes totalling RM3 million.
The remand order was issued by Magistrate Ezrene Zakariah following MACC’s application, after the husband and wife appeared at the commission’s headquarters on Wednesday afternoon to give statements.
According to the investigation, the political secretary, who holds the title of Datuk, and his spouse allegedly demanded and received the bribe between February and November 2021 in return for assisting a company to secure a concession for a coastal reclamation project in the Melaka region.
Authorities further revealed that the funds are believed to have been used to purchase a condominium unit in the Klang Valley.
The case marks the latest high-profile investigation by MACC into alleged corruption involving public officials in Malaysia, underscoring continued efforts to combat bribery and promote transparency in government dealings. - February 12, 2026
