RESIDENTS of Indah Permai in Kota Kinabalu were met with a scene of absolute horror early this morning following the discovery of a dismembered body at a communal rubbish dump.
The remains, which are believed to belong to a woman, were found by a team of municipal waste collectors as they began their rounds at approximately 7 am on Thursday.
Witnesses report that the scene was particularly grisly, with the victim's body parts found separated and stowed within black plastic refuse bags.
The discovery sent shockwaves through the local housing estate and quickly gained traction across social media platforms before formal reports reached the authorities.
The Royal Malaysia Police arrived shortly after the grim find and have cordoned off the area to conduct a thorough forensic investigation.
Officers remain on-site as they attempt to piece together the circumstances surrounding the death and identify the victim.
In a new development, authorities in Kota Kinabalu are currently scouring multiple waste disposal sites and sorting through lorry loads of refuse following the grim discovery of human remains earlier today.
The search was initiated after a severed arm and leg were found at a collection point in Taman Indah Permai, prompting fears that the rest of the body may have been distributed across various locations or already loaded into disposal vehicles.
The alarm was raised at approximately 6.30 am when a refuse collector was startled by a human arm, severed from the shoulder to the palm, falling out of a bin as it was being emptied. Upon halting work to inspect the container, the worker and his colleagues discovered a human leg, severed from the hip to the foot.
The limbs appeared to have been deliberately dismembered before being wrapped in black plastic bags and discarded.
Despite an intensive four-hour search involving police officers and municipal staff, no further body parts had been recovered as of 11 am.
Investigators are now focused on locating the remaining arm, leg, torso, and head to complete the identification process and determine the nature of the crime.
Superintendent Syed Lot Syed Ab Rahman, the Acting Kota Kinabalu District Police Chief, confirmed the incident and stated that a comprehensive investigation is underway.
