A 15-YEAR-OLD male student has pleaded not guilty to murdering a 16-year-old female classmate in a stabbing incident at a secondary school in Bandar Utama last October, in what has become one of the most shocking school crimes in the region.
The boy, who was a Form One student in a transition class at the time of the incident, entered his plea in the High Court on Thursday after the charge was read to him in Mandarin before Judge Adlin Abdul Majid.
Proceedings were held behind closed doors, with only the teenager’s family present, in accordance with laws protecting juvenile offenders.
According to the indictment, the youth is accused of killing a Form Three female student in the girls’ bathroom of the school between 9.20 and 9.35 a.m. on 14 October 2025.
The charge is framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty or a minimum of 30 years in prison, with a maximum of 40 years, alongside the possibility of up to 12 strokes of the cane if the death sentence is not imposed.
Deputy Public Prosecutors Aqharie Durranie Aziz and Zamariah Zarifah Aris are handling the prosecution.
Speaking outside the court, the boy’s lawyer, Kitson Foong, confirmed that his client understood the charges and requested the case be tried.
“My client comprehends the charge and has asked for the matter to be heard. The court has set 6 March for the next case management session, during which several trial dates will be fixed,” he said.
Foong added that the defence anticipates the trial will last approximately 14 days around July, as both parties prefer to avoid prolonging proceedings.
The court has restricted attendance at the trial to the defence team and the prosecution, though it granted permission for two observer lawyers representing the Malaysian Bar Council and the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) to be present.
Lawyers representing the victim’s family were excluded in case family members are later called as witnesses.
Meanwhile, the accused will remain in the juvenile detention facility at Pusat Koreksional Puncak Alam pending trial.
The victim was found dead in the school bathroom after sustaining multiple stab wounds. A psychiatric report previously submitted to the Petaling Jaya Magistrate’s Court on 16 January confirmed that the teenager is fit to stand trial.
