A 45-YEAR-OLD local woman has lost RM219,320 after falling victim to a fraudulent syndicate that lured her with promises of extraordinary returns from a non-existent share investment scheme.
Kulai district police chief Assistant Commissioner Tan Seng Lee said the victim was drawn to the offer after coming across an investment package guaranteeing profits of between 10 and 20 per cent within 24 hours.
He said the woman proceeded to make nine separate transactions into three local bank accounts between Dec 9 last year and last Thursday.
According to Tan, the victim was informed that all investment movements and profits would be reflected in her account on an application known as VI+Bull. She later found that the account purportedly showed profits amounting to RM336,544.
“When the victim attempted to withdraw money from the account, it was blocked. Suspecting that she had been cheated, the victim lodged a police report yesterday, and the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code,” he said in a statement today.
The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating. - February 15, 2025
