Govt pushes digital safety and skills at Johor Community Day
Communications Minister highlights ongoing efforts to protect online users and empower local communities through digital education and services

THE nation is strengthening digital awareness and community empowerment as Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil attended the Hari Bersama Komuniti (Community Day) programme organised by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) in collaboration with the National Information Dissemination Centre (NADI) at Taman Desa Belantik, Johor Bahru.

The event focused primarily on the Internet Safety Campaign, a continuous initiative by MCMC to safeguard digital users within local communities.

Throughout 2025, the programme conducted 9,666 activities nationwide, underscoring the government’s commitment to promoting safe and responsible digital practices, particularly among children.

“Protecting users, especially the younger generation, is essential as our communities embrace the digital world. Initiatives like these ensure that internet access goes hand in hand with awareness and responsible use,” Fahmi Fadzil said during the event.

Community Day also showcased various Smart Services under NADI, including eSports activities, DiLea tuition programmes, the NADI Mahir gadget repair initiative, health screenings, and exhibitions and sales by NADI entrepreneurs.

Participating agencies included the eKasih counter by the Implementation Coordination Unit of the Prime Minister’s Department and the Safe Electricity Campaign by Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB).

By December 2025, NADI Smart Services recorded 1.4 million participants nationwide, reflecting strong community engagement and an ongoing demand for programmes that enhance digital skills and socio-economic development.

“The Hari Bersama Komuniti demonstrates NADI’s role as a one-stop community hub,” said Fahmi Fadzil.

“It provides collective internet access while serving as a platform to empower communities through digital skills development, entrepreneurship, and the dissemination of government initiatives at the grassroots level.”

The event was also attended by the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Communications, Datuk Abdul Halim Hamzah, and MCMC’s Chief Officer for State Affairs, Haji Bukhari Yahya.

The programme reinforces Malaysia’s strategy to integrate digital literacy, online safety, and socio-economic empowerment into community initiatives, ensuring that technological access translates into tangible benefits for all citizens. - February 16, 2026
