Probe starts into second My Heli Club accident in as many months

KUALA LUMPUR – This morning's helicopter crash in the Port Klang Free Zone has been confirmed by the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM).

In a statement, it said that the helicopter departed the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang at 9.05am and was operating over Pulau Indah airspace at 9.25am.

“The pilot reported that operation was normal at 9.45am and no emergency call was received by the Kuala Lumpur Air Traffic Control after that.

“Upon receiving a notification of the accident, CAAM activated the Aeronautical Rescue Coordination Centre. The safety investigation will be conducted by the Air Accident Investigation Bureau under the Transport Ministry in accordance with Part XXVI Civil Aviation Regulations 2016.”

This morning, two people were hurt after a two-seater My Heli Club helicopter crashed in an open area in the Port Klang Free Zone at 10am.

This is the second incident involving the My Heli Club.

According to the report sighted by The Vibes, the two victims sustained injuries and were taken to hospital by a West Port ambulance.

The Robinson R66 9M-SAW private helicopter had attempted an emergency landing before it crashed.

Pilot Kharudin Dahlan, 72, is said to have injured his left hand. 

Meanwhile, co-pilot Moithu Kutti Mohamad, 52, suffered light injuries. 

There was no fire following the crash and the cause of the incident has yet to be determined.

On November 8, two helicopters crashed in Taman Melawati, Ampang, at noon.

Two people were killed in the incident, while another two were injured. The accident involved a woman and three men.

Authorities believe that the two My Heli Club helicopters were conducting flight tests, but one pilot lost control of the aircraft and crashed in a small clearing.

Police identified the victims as Mohamed Sabri Baharom, 56, and Mohd Irfan Fikri Mohamed Rawi, 41.

Police later said former Malaysian Airline System Bhd group CEO Ahmad Jauhari Yahya, who was one of the pilots, was in the helicopter that crashed in the field, with passenger Wendy Tan.

The flight tests were believed to be part of Jauhari’s My Heli Club. The make of the helicopters were the Heli Cabri 9M-HCB and Heli Cabri 9M-HCA. – The Vibes, January 1, 2021
