SEVEN individuals, including a Thai national woman, have been arrested following the shooting of a Proton X70 driven by the Commander of the Bukit Kayu Hitam Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) in the early hours two days ago.
Kedah Police Chief, Datuk Adzli Abu Shah, stated that among the six male suspects, two tested positive for gunshot residue (GSR), indicating they had discharged a firearm.
He explained that GSR particles typically cling to the hands and cheeks of suspects and were also found on a motorcycle key involved in the case.
“All suspects, aged between 22 and 52, were apprehended during a raid under Operation Tutup launched early the day before yesterday. They were all found to reside in housing areas near the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) complex at Bukit Kayu Hitam,” he said.
Adzli confirmed that all six male suspects are local residents, while the Thai national woman is the spouse of one of the men. Six of the suspects are remanded until 1 March, while the woman has been remanded for 14 days under the Immigration Act pending verification of her travel documents.
Earlier reports had stated that the Proton X70 carrying Senior Assistant Commissioner Mohd Nasaruddin M Nasir was fired upon with two gunshots. Fortunately, he was not struck by the bullets.
Two of the suspects, a married couple, were apprehended at the Padang Besar border checkpoint in Perlis at 12.30pm yesterday, allegedly attempting to flee the country.
“It is peculiar that this couple lives in Bukit Kayu Hitam but attempted to leave via Padang Besar. That is why we detained them for further investigation,” Adzli noted.
Preliminary urine tests revealed that five of the suspects tested positive for ketamine, while one tested positive for methamphetamine.
Further checks also revealed that several suspects have previous criminal records, including cases involving rape, customs violations, murder, and other offences. - February 27, 2026
