AUTHORITIES have detained two additional suspects over the brazen attack on a vehicle carrying the commander of the Malaysia Border Control and Protection Agency (MCBA) earlier this week, as investigations point to connections with the criminal group Geng Pak Su.
Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail confirmed the two local men, aged 51 and 58, were apprehended last night following profiling and forensic work based on earlier arrests.
“Based on the earlier arrests and follow-up investigations, we identified two more suspects, leading to the arrests last night,” he told reporters.
“In the first 24 hours, we are processing them and will seek a remand order after that period. That is the current status of the investigation.”
Saifuddin had earlier visited the MCBA entry point at the Bukit Kayu Hitam Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security Complex, accompanied by MCBA director-general Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain and Kedah police chief Adzli Abu Shah.
The attack occurred at approximately 5.40am on Wednesday when a Proton X70 driven by MCBA commander SAC Mohd Nasaruddin M Nasir was fired upon at a slip road leading to Masjid Muhajirin, roughly one kilometre from the Malaysia–Thailand border.
Two assailants on a motorcycle reportedly discharged two shots from a semi-automatic weapon.
According to the Home Minister, Mohd Nasaruddin told police he believed he had been followed prior to the shooting and provided descriptions of the individuals’ appearance and behaviour, which allowed investigators to develop profiles and track down the suspects.
Earlier raids conducted on the day of the attack saw seven suspects aged between 22 and 52, including a 22-year-old Thai woman, arrested in Bukit Kayu Hitam and Padang Besar. Kedah police chief Adzli Abu Shah noted that the arrested suspects are closely linked to Geng Pak Su.
“The suspect knows and is close to members of the gang involved, and the investigation is ongoing. So far, the pistol used in the incident has not been found,” he said, confirming that the weapon remains missing.
According to previous reports, six of the original suspects are local men, while the female suspect, believed to be the spouse of one of the men, is a Thai national.
All were detained under Ops Tutup, a targeted operation by the Kedah contingent’s Special Investigation Division (D9) of the Criminal Investigation Department.
Authorities confirmed that the suspects reside in residential areas near the Bukit Kayu Hitam ICQS complex, and the husband-and-wife duo was intercepted attempting to flee across the border into Thailand at Padang Besar, Perlis, at around 12.30pm.
Investigations into the motive and wider network behind the attack remain ongoing, with police warning that further arrests are possible as inquiries continue. - February 28, 2026
