KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia continues to record a high number of new Covid cases with 2,068 infections today, taking the national tally to 115,078.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah announced another three fatalities, pushing the death toll to 474.

He also reported 2,230 new recoveries, making for a total of 91,171, or 79.2% of overall infections.

Of the total daily cases today, Selangor tops the list with 776 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (457) cases, Sabah (254), Penang (226) and Johor (112).

Meanwhile, Kelantan logged 53 cases followed by Negri Sembilan (51), Perak (51), Melaka (23), Kedah (20), Pahang (16), Terengganu (14), Sarawak (8), Putrajaya (4) and Labuan (3), 

Perlis has no new infections.

Dr Noor Hisham announced that 126 cases are currently being treated in the intensive care unit while 54 are on ventilators.

He also announced the emergence of three new clusters.

The Rawa Akasia cluster was detected at a worksite in Seberang Prai Tengah, with 117 cases.

The Jalan Perindustrian cluster in Kulai, Johor recorded 20 cases.

Finally, the Rantau Semarak cluster in the districts of Maran, Pahang and Gombak, Selangor has 18 cases. – The Vibes, January 1, 2021
