CONTROVERSIAL preacher Zamri Vinoth is expected to be charged at the magistrates’ court in Kuala Lumpur today in connection with investigations into allegedly racist remarks and comments linked to a controversial temple gathering.
A message circulating widely on WhatsApp claimed that the preacher would be brought before the court at 8.30am.
The message, which also called on supporters to gather at the courthouse, stated that further details of the specific charges had yet to be confirmed.
Various news outlets are seeking confirmation from the authorities regarding the alleged court appearance.
Last night, Zamri’s lawyer, Haniff Khatri Abdulla, said his client could possibly be charged today, although he had not yet received official confirmation.
Zamri is being investigated over statements allegedly containing racist elements directed at the Indian community, as well as remarks connected to a gathering on 7 February concerning an unauthorised temple.
Earlier, Inspector-General of Police Mohd Khalid Ismail said the police were cooperating with Thai authorities in efforts to locate and bring back Zamri and activist Tamim Dahri Abdul Razak.
Tamim is also wanted by the police to face charges over allegedly damaging a soolam, a sacred symbol in Hinduism.
The offences under investigation carry a maximum penalty of two years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both. - March 16, 2026
