INDEPENDENT preacher Zamri Vinoth claimed trial at the magistrate's court today to a charge of making statements allegedly causing public mischief during a rally.
Earlier, Zamri, wearing a blue coat and black trousers, arrived at the court complex at 9.10 am in handcuffs and was taken in an SUV accompanied by police officers and members.
He managed to greet journalists and photographers who had been waiting since 8 am.
The 41-year-old pleaded not guilty after the charge under Section 505 (b) of the Penal Code was read out before magistrate Faezahnoor Hassan.
Zamri Vinoth was charged with issuing a statement that had the potential to cause public fear that could incite people to commit offences against public order, at 12.23 pm, February 3, at a rally in front of a shopping complex in the capital.
If convicted, he is punishable by imprisonment for up to two years, a fine or both.
Also seen in court this morning were several members of the Anti-Illegal Places of Worship Movement (GARAH), including independent preacher Firdaus Wong. – March 17, 2026
