THE case involving Tamim Dahri Abdul Razak, 34, who is accused of damaging a sacred symbol in the Hindu religion, has been postponed because the accused is abroad.

Magistrate Hemy Annerina Haja Mydin set May 17 for mention after the prosecution requested an adjournment.

Kedah Prosecution Director, Datuk Khairul Anuar Abd Halim, said his party needed about two months to allow the accused to be brought to court to physically face the charges.

He said that a check with the Thai Immigration found that Tamim Dahri had left the country via Bangkok International Airport heading to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on March 15.

"So far, the prosecution has not been able to ascertain whether the accused entered Riyadh using a tourist visa or an umrah visa, which has a different period of stay. "In this regard, we are requesting a longer mention date to enable the accused to be brought to court for physical charges," he said.

He also informed that to date, 192 police reports have been received involving the same conduct allegedly committed by Tamim Dahri.

Yesterday, Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said Tamim Dahri will be charged under Section 295 of the Penal Code for allegedly damaging a soolam, which is a sacred symbol for Hindus at the old site of the Sri Maha Muniswarar Temple in Langkawi. – March 17, 2026
