POLICE are tracking a man who is believed to have acted violently towards his wife by beating her in a public place before hitting her head with a motorcycle in an incident in Kota Shahbandar in Melaka, early Sunday morning.

Melaka Police Chief, Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar, said a report was made by the 51-year-old victim's mother yesterday after a video of the incident went viral on social media.

According to him, initial investigations found that the 20-year-old woman was attacked by her 22-year-old husband in front of an entertainment centre in the Kota Shahbandar area at about 4 am.

“The CCTV footage showed the suspect hitting and slapping the victim.

“The viral video also showed the suspect pulling the victim’s hair before hitting the woman on the head with the motorcycle he was riding,” he said in a statement today.

He said that as a result of the attack, the victim suffered soft tissue injuries to her head and right cheek.

He said that the victim was then rushed to the Melaka Hospital and treated in the Red Zone before she was allowed to go home and taken by her mother to their home in Tanjung Minyak Perdana.

“The victim’s mother then came forward to lodge a police report as she was worried about her child’s safety.

“However, on the same night at about 9 pm, the victim’s mother found the back door of her house open.

“She found that the victim and her two-year-old son were not at home, believed have followed the suspect,” he said.

He said that until now, the victim could not be contacted, and the mother was worried about their safety.

“Efforts to trace the suspect as well as the victim and her child are ongoing.

"The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code and Section 18A of the Domestic Violence Act 1994," he said. – March 17, 2026
